One-a-day 3-31-13

Quick sketch based on an action line, letting it develop how it wanted.

Another before bed. Went through half a dozen scribbles before this one, and sadly this was the best of the lot. Maybe I should switch to two a day minimum if I want to improve.

On another note, just finished watching the DVD of the opera Hansel and Gretel at the met, and now I'm royally creeped out, lol. I go into tech week for Hansel & Gretel tomorrow, should be fun! I don't think ours will be quite as creepy, lol.

One-a-day 3-30-13

Really really didn't want to draw, had such a long day with Sarah's birthday adventure, but I really don't want to break this habit. What usually happens when I try to form a new habit is I do really good in the short term, which makes me feel good about myself. Which in turn makes me feel like its ok to skip the habit every now and then. But after the first time I skip, it gets easier and easier to skip, until the habit is completely broken.
And I really really need to continue drawing every day, even when I don't want to, and even if it's just a doodle like this.

Happy Easter, or whatever you celebrate, :)

Edit: I removed the excuse from the picture. I've got to quit letting myself have excuses to not draw.

One-a-day 3-29-13

I watch Star Trek every night before going to sleep. The Quark episodes of DS9 are some of my favorite to sleep to. I find the Ferengi very entertaining. Having grown up around flea market folk, they are the most familiar feeling of all the alien species.

Had to squeeze this in before bed again, spent most of the day working on various projects for my friend Sarah's birthday adventure.

One+-a-day 3-28-13

Did a second sketch before bed, because this birdy is stuck in my head.

One-a-day 3-28-13

Started out as just a little bird, but evolved into this.

I rather like this species, will have to use them somewhere. They don't have a name yet, though my sister helpfully suggested 'Rabirdy', lol.

One-a-day 3-27-13

Again had to sneak my one-a-day sketch in before bed.

One of my shows coming up is Hansel and Gretel the Opera, had a meeting about it today, should be fun!!!

One-a-day 3-26-13

Nearly didn't have a chance to sketch today either, so I snuck one in before bed. Here's hoping I can continue this habit. :)

So... I'm involved In a live theatre production of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
I know, I geeked out when I found out, too.

The only thing is, I had never played Ocarina of Time.
I know, I just lost over 9000 geek points.
But that reference should have earned me back at least 10...

At any rate, a good friend graciously lent me their copy for the 3ds, and I totally get to play it and say its for work.
I love my job.

The show is volunteer, but it's raising money for kids cancer research. Video game geekery + a great and noble cause. Win-win.

So with Zelda on the brain, the first scribble to jump out of my pencil was, naturally, the triforce. Or at least as close to the triforce as I could manage without a reference pic.

One-a-day 3-25-13

Almost didn't have time to sketch today.
I am so tired I nearly said "forget it, I'll draw 2 tomorrow", but I really don't want to fall into that habit now that I'm finally drawing everyday again.
So, I Scribbled the first thing that came to mind, a poorly done, not referenced anime-ized version of Glitch from the miniseries Tin Man.

Alan Cumming is awesome, he's one of my favorite actors. :) hope to do a better drawing of Glitch eventually.
I can't help it, I have a soft spot for mad scientists. :)

One-a-day 3-24-13

Possibly final design for my Argonian's werewolf form.

Sound of music ended today, next up- Hansel and Gretel the Opera. :)

One+-a-day 3-23-13

Managed to find time to do 2 sketches today, one of them fully colored and everything.

Still using the limited program Paper by 53, but it's sort of great for this sort of project. Plus there's the neat journal animation that goes with it, lol.

Anywho, these are both Skyrim based. The painted one is based on my character Jareth Path-Knower, and the story of how he got his Cyrodilic name.

The sketch-only one is an attempt at working out a werewolf Argonian, but I ultimately decided that there wasn't enough wolf blood showing through, and will be redesigning it. Jareth is part of the brotherhood, and since I'm developing his character, I'm trying to work out how his werewolf form would differ from the standard human werewolf.

One-a-day 3-22-13

Quick pose from imagination. It slightly resembles Arty, but is not him, it's just a random model that jumped out of my stylus. :)

I have a really full work schedule today, so I doubt if I'll have a chance to do another sketch today. It's a 3-show day for Sound of Music.

My Wacom ipad stylus tip broke. :( but the company is sending me a complimentary replacement, since it shouldn't have worn out that quickly. Wacom is quite awesome like that.

One-a-day 3-21-13

For Brandon, one of his favorite Pokemon, on a rather lame background.

One-a-day 3-20-13

I'm about to be involved In a production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. In preparation of that, I just watched the movie on Netflix, now I'm really excited! After so many fluffy musicals, will be fun to work on a show that requires thought.

With the storyline of Hamlet in my head, I tried to draw a skull from memory. My memory needs improvement. I'm not happy with the skull so I added a caricature Hamlet, just to entertain me.
And yes, I know that isn't the line where he is holding the skull, but I like that monologue better than the 'to be or not to be' one.

That is so not how a skull works...

Things to practice: skulls, and hands.

One+-a-day - 3-19-13

My dog Candy curled up in a blanket in front of me on the couch. I had to sketch her.

I really need to do way more sketching than I have been.

One-a-day 3-19-13

The view from my seat at the co-op market downtown. Very quick impression.
By the by, I misdated yesterday's one-a-day, it's supposed to be for the 18th. I should check the date before writing it, lol.

One-a-day

So a billion things have happened since my last post.
The move didn't go through, but we're still trying.

I turned 24, and had the absolute best birthday ever. My friends and family put together an adventure for me involving all of my favorite fandoms. One of the many perks of having theatre techie friends is the awesomeness they can pull together. I'm uploading the story of that as soon as I can.

At the end of the adventure they revealed an ipad, all for me, that my community had all pitched in for. So amazing! I love this thing so much!

Now that I have a full portable studio in the form of an ipad, I'm starting a one-a-day sketchbook in the app 'paper by 53'. It's a very limited drawing app, but I've found it nice for quickly capturing ideas. Here is the first of them. I may not upload them everyday, but I'm going to try to upload them at least once a week.
